Goalkeeper records second-straight shutout against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (April 16, 2024) – Rhode Island FC goalkeeper Jackson Lee has been named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for the second-consecutive week after recording a second-straight clean sheet in his third professional start against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.
The Perth, Australia native mirrored his performance against Charleston Battery, playing another critical role in Rhode Island FC’s 0-0 draw against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Saturday. Lee made three sensational saves to keep his club in the match to help secure another important point in the Eastern Conference standings. The 22-year-old’s Save of the Match came in the 77th minute of play when Pittsburgh forward Edward Kizza found a low cross opportunity at his feet from the top of the six-yard box that was rejected thanks to Lee’s quick reflexes. As Pittsburgh attempted to punch in the rebound, Lee denied the visitors again to make a remarkable double-save en route to a second-straight Man of the Match performance.
Lee’s performance against Pittsburgh was only his fourth professional appearance. The goalkeeper first stepped in for an injured Koke Vegas on March 24 at Monterey Bay F.C. and has shined ever since. With two Team of the Week honors, Man of the Match performances and clean sheets in three starts, Lee continues to show situational awareness and is off to an incredible start for the Ocean State club.
Rhode Island FC faces off against Charlotte Independence in the Third Round of the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, April 16 at 7 p.m. from American Legion Memorial Stadium before returning to USL Championship action on Saturday, April 20 (8 p.m. ET) when the club travels out west to take on Las Vegas Lights FC at Cashman Field.
