Conor McGlynn will be the second player to join the Rhode Island FC Roster
PAWTUCKET, RI – A week after announcing the club’s first player, Rhode Island FC, the Ocean State’s new professional men’s soccer team, signed USL Championship midfielder Conor McGlynn. McGlynn most recently played for USL Championship club Hartford Athletic.
“I am incredibly excited to welcome Conor to the Rhode Island FC roster. He is an experienced USL midfielder with excellent passing range and game understanding,” said Khano Smith, head coach and general manager of Rhode Island FC. “Conor fits the mold of the kind of person and player we want to have at our club, and his presence on the pitch will provide us with quality USL experience in our inaugural season.”
In four seasons with Hartford, he scored seven goals and notched three assists while recording over 4,000 minutes of playing time. Notably, five of his seven goals were from outside the box, including a goal from his own half, which was then featured on ESPN’s Sportscenter.
McGlynn played with BW Gottschee Academy in New York. McGlynn played collegiate soccer for Siena College. His brother Jack plays in the MLS for Philadelphia Union.
“I can’t wait to wear the Rhode Island FC crest as I join a community of people dedicated to bringing the beautiful game to Rhode Island,” said Conor McGlynn, Rhode Island FC midfielder. “I am grateful for the opportunity to be on a team that will work diligently from Day One to be a team that all Rhode Island can be proud of. I look forward to a great first season and being a part of what Rhode Island FC is building.
Rhode Island FC will make its USL Championship debut in early March 2024 and will play its home matches during its inaugural season at Beirne Stadium at Bryant University while the state-of-the-art soccer stadium at Tidewater Landing is completed. Like all transactions in the USL Championship, McGlynn’s signing will be finalized pending league and federation approval.
